After finishing making my edition of ‘A View from the Studio’, I decided to repurpose the linoblock by cutting it up to create a piece which just portrays the jackdaw on it’s branch with all the foliage in the background, to re-contextualise it and make the main focus be the bird.
I intentionally cut the edges of the block to make a rough oval shape with ridges so it could mimic the profile of the inside of a tree trunk to make reference to the birds surroundings, as well as to an end grain piece of wood which printmakers might use for wood engraving prints.
Printed with oil based printmaking ink onto Okawara Japanese 51gsm paper
40 × 50cm
Edition of 30
Sold unframed, this print will be rolled in a sturdy tube upon shipping
